Bush's 2009 proposed Federal budget eliminates funding for Reading is Fundamental, a program that distributes 16 million books annually to the nation’s youngest and most at-risk children, at the relatively minimal cost of $26 million.
Visit the Reading is Fundamental website at http://www.rif.org. They have a form where you fill in your zipcode and they send a personalized message to your Congressional representatives.
That $26 million is basically a rounding error in the Department of Defense budget and it's ridiculous that Bush can't find the money somewhere in the vastness of the federal budget.
