My live journal is used for both fannish and personal posts. The personal posts are, invariably, f-locked. Fannish posts that are a) purely fannish and b) potentially of general interest are public. My completed stories, icons and episode notes, as well as any meta-fannish observations and discussions, are *always* posted publicly. (I sometimes post story drafts in f-locked posts, but those are just roughs anyway.) Just in case you wandered in here completely by accident all of my stories deal with gay sex, gay romance or both and most of them are sexually explicit. So I'd have to say this LJ is adults only.

|
Hey and welcome!
In theory, my insane journal is used for both fannish and personal posts. The personal posts are, invariably, f-locked. Fannish posts that are a) purely fannish and b) potentially of general interest are public. My completed stories, icons and episode notes, as well as any meta-fannish observations and discussions, are *always* posted publically. (I sometimes post story drafts in f-locked posts, but those are just roughs anyway.) Just in case you wandered in here completely by accident all of my stories deal with gay sex, gay romance or both and most of them are sexually explicit. So I'd have to say this LJ is adults only.
Anyone is welcome to friend my LJ to get the fannish posts, though I will say that there's precious little fannish content these days and it's very random and sporadic. My love for fandom, and fans, has not dimmed in the slightest and I have hopes that some day there will be more, and more regular, fannish content on my journal; however, since I'm about to move across country, start graduate school and embark on a whole new adventurous part of my life, there's no predicting *when* that will be with more detail than Not Any Time Soon.
If you'd like me to friend you back so you can read about my move, my classes, my neuroses, and whatever else is fluttering through my head at the moment, please respond to this post and let me know. All comments will be screened, but I'll definitely see it. If I know you, please remind me where I know you from in your request--I have an embarrassingly bad memory for names most of the time. If I don't know you and you'd like me to add you, respond to this post and tell me a little about yourself. Let's get to know each other.

From vamysteryfan: Bush's 2009 proposed Federal budget eliminates funding for Reading is Fundamental, a program that distributes 16 million books annually to the nation’s youngest and most at-risk children, at the relatively minimal cost of $26 million.
Visit the Reading is Fundamental website at http://www.rif.org. They have a form where you fill in your zipcode and they send a personalized message to your Congressional representatives. That $26 million is basically a rounding error in the Department of Defense budget and it's ridiculous that Bush can't find the money somewhere in the vastness of the federal budget. So seriously, to visit the RIF website and click on their Urgent Action Needed link. http://www.rif.orgFeel free to repost this and get the word out.

I was scrubbing my bathroom this morning, as it was one of my to do items, and part of the bathroom scrubbing procedure is to clear the tub drain of my hair.
Yuk.
Today's haul was a nasty, wet, matted glob that wound out about the size of a chipmunk.
Double yuk.
While I was clearing the drain, I was thinking about the episode of CSI:NY I watched last night where they observed that the vic had long, beautiful blonde hair and they could probably retrieve a hair from the drain in her bathroom (from which they could determine how long someone had been poisoning her).
So Danny (I believe) goes to her bathroom and pulls out one single long hair, clean, pristine and perfect. That's how it always goes in these CSI shows. One beautiful hair comes out of the drain.
No gunk. No mat. No chimpunk of foulness.
How is that possible? And why would they do that?
It's not like these shows are shy about showing gross stuff (hello, TMI-cam), so why do they gloss over the nasty reality of hair gunk in the drain?

Go here and watch this preview.
You've watched it?
Okay.
The movie itself, on the *huge* IMAX screen and in 3D that will blow your goddamned mind, makes that look like a trailer for an episode of the Teletubbies.
I am not, I admit freely, a U2 fan (I like songs not bands, in general). Or, at least, I wasn't until I saw this movie. But now, oh, yeah...
( Click for more squee, some drooling, and a modicum of sensible comment )
As far as I can tell tickets to the show cost whatever normal tickets at the IMAX theater of your choice cost. In our case, it was $13 and I would have felt like I got a bargain at twice that. I will be going back, alone or in company, when it starts at the IMAX theater near here (in mid February). (For more information about the movie and show times, go to the official U2 3D site).

Happy birthday, elmyraemilie!!!
I hope you have a *fantastic* day, darling, filled with love and joy and everything that makes you happiest. And I hope that this day is just day one of an even more fantastic year!!
I'd sing you happy birthday, but you'd have to ice-pick your own ears, so I'll be nice. :D Just know that I'll be thinking of you all day. And OMG looking forward to seeing you tomorrow, in what must be the most incredibly well-timed impromptu visit ever.

OMG janedavitt just posted this fic and it's hot hot hot!! Gibbs/DiNozzo, because I can't really imagine reading anything else (well, okay, maybe Abby/McGee).
It's called Kill Me With Kindness.
It's utterly NC-17, in a totally delicious way. Gibbs is just so wonderfully *Gibbs* in it, and Tony...ah, I love Tony. I can *relate* to Tony in this story.
It's even got my kind of kink (with the right Dom, D/s doesn't require *props*) and is ever so yummy. (Which isn't to say that the props are a *bad* thing. But for Gibbs...I think they'd distract rather than adding.)
Seriously, if you have even an inkling of an interest in NCIS fic go read it. Once again that's Kill Me With Kindness, by janedavitt.

I'm trying to figure out if I can blame spikedluv for getting me into another fandom. :D
I mean, okay, it was elmyraemilie who showed me my first episodes of NCIS (Thank you!!), but Spikedluv told me that I really needed to pay more attention to Tony DiNozzo and not get put off by his juvenile antics (thank you, too!!)
Because yeah, having watched the first couple of episodes, I can see what you mean about him, hon. Seeing the beginning of Tony's interactions with Kate makes a big difference. And he really does want Gibbs...to respect him. And he's got a lot of insecurity going (which always endears people to me for some reason). So I'm falling in love with him, for his personality not just his gorgeous mouth (which OMG I want to kiss until I can't breathe). And I'm deeply in lust with Gibbs. And I want to have Abby's children and let Ducky bounce them on his knee.
It's not bad having a new fandom, right?
I started reading fic. And I need more recs, yes, please?? Lots and lots of recs.
I have one to share, though probably everyone's seen this story because it's not new.
Words, by Nix. Gibbs/DiNozzo (I suspect everything I read in this fandom will be, I am *so* OTPish), kinky but not particularly so. I mean, okay, there's a kink there but it's not a kinky kink so to speak. I mean, look, I have a kissing kink and a good kiss story can really get me going, but that's not going to get to someone who likes "kink". This is like that. Sort of. Anyway, DiNozzo in this story is so...Jesus, so much like me. Except I never had anyone who ..., erm, never mind. Just read it, it's good.

From elmyraemilie:
A friend from fandom has recently been diagnosed with aplastic anemia. This is a vicious constellation of syndromes and disease that causes the bone marrow to stop producing all types of blood cells: no red cells, no platelets, no white cells--nothing. It's a frightening diagnosis, even now, when modern medicine is conquering so many fatal conditions. There was a time when aplastic anemia was invariably fatal, but that's not the case any more. Anti-immunosuppresive drugs and selective transfusions can stretch time for those diagnosed, hopefully until a match for a bone marrow transplant can be found.
That's the hitch, of course. The person I'm talking about has a rare blood type, so finding a match will be an arduous process.
Please go to the National Marrow Donor Program website and find out how simple it is to register as a marrow donor. The process of donating is not nearly as difficult and complicated as it was even 10 years ago. You--you, yourself, sitting there reading this--could actually save another person's life.
Maybe even my friend's life, this vivid member of our community, this mother, wife, writer, and friend. Please go get the information and sign up to be a marrow donor. Thousands of people with aplastic anemia seek a marrow donor every day; unless their match has taken the time to register, their lifesaving search will be in vain. What a tragic loss.
Spread the word. Copy and paste this like the best meme in the world into every journal and blog you run. Get the word out. Ask people to register as bone marrow donors. Please register yourself--it could be the best thing you've ever done.

I haven't had much time for reading fic lately, what with Real Life Running Rampant around here, but I did sneak a chance yesterday to read a new story that just posted at Blackraptor Adult.
It's called "Not the First Time" by ELG. It's Chris/Vin, Old West. No Vin-speak, spikedluv--well, maybe just a tiny bit, but not much and there's not a lot of dialogue. Hot as blazes, but with some absolutely gorgeous and wonderful angst as well. All Vin POV. This is the kind of story that really gives meaning to the phrase "erotic character study"--it all takes place during a sex scene, but it's *not* a PWP, in my opinion.
I'm not giving a link because I don't want to alienate Nancy at BR. It just posted yesterday so it's at the top of the New Stories list on the front page. If you don't have the URL to Blackraptor Adult, you can get it by following the instructions here.

Got this from wonderful elmyraemilie. And since I'm deeply in favor of increasing the store of smut in the world, I'm passing it along.
So witchdragon was commenting on a nice bit of slashy smut over at the_minx_17's IJ, and then made the suggestion that, since many people seem to be having some writing blocks recently, we should all post a bit of smut, kink, porn or other dirty story here at IJ on September 1. I'm all for that. There do not seem to be any rules, and I think that's the point--just post something. Write a little bit and put it up where people can pet you for writing it, and let's get those Muses to work again. Nothing like praise to feed the muse.
So write, post on September 1, and then comment on everyone else's. Let's get writing again!
(Cross-posted to comms and my IJ.)
